Plaud Launches NotePin: AI Wearable For Effortless Note-Taking

Ahead of IFA, Plaud has launched the NotePin, a wearable AI device designed to help users record, transcribe, and summarize notes and meetings while on the go.

This follows the success of Plaud’s earlier product (PLAUD Note, launched in 2023, an AI-powered voice recorder that gained popularity for its ability to attach to the back of a phone and transcribe voice notes and calls, having raised over $1M on Kickstarter in August 2023).

The NotePin, priced at $169, can be worn in various ways, such as around the neck, on the wrist, or clipped to clothing, making it more accessible and convenient than its predecessor.

It belongs to the category of productivity-focused AI wearables, aiming to streamline tasks and enhance efficiency. Unlike some AI devices designed for companionship, the NotePin is all about utility.

It features up to 20 hours of continuous recording, but recording is manually activated by tapping the device. This design choice addresses privacy concerns by ensuring that recordings are intentional rather than continuous and automatic.

Plaud NotePin vs. the Plaud Note, Key Differences:

  • Form Factor: The NotePin is a wearable device, while the Note is an attachable device for a smartphone.
  • Usage: The NotePin is designed for broader, more versatile use cases beyond just phone calls, such as meetings and everyday interactions, whereas the Note is more focused on recording phone calls and voice notes.
  • Recording Method: The NotePin requires manual activation to start recording, while the Note automatically records when used with a smartphone.
  • Portability: The NotePin is designed to be more accessible and portable. Unlike Plaud Note, it is wearable and not dependent on a smartphone.
  • Target Audience: The NotePin targets users who need a more constant and flexible recording tool, whereas the Note is for users who want a simple way to record conversations on their phones.

Free basic AI features

Plaud, a company that just surpassed $10M in sales, offers basic AI features for free, with more advanced functions like summary templates and speaker labeling available for $79 per year. The device’s success hinges on its software, as the AI-driven features will make it valuable to users.

In a market where AI is increasingly used to capture and manage information, the challenge for Plaud and its competitors will be to effectively handle the vast amount of data users generate. While perfect memory is an appealing concept, the real test for Plaud will be refining its software to provide accurate, helpful, and accessible information from the recordings made by the NotePin.

The product will be showcased at Showstoppers during IFA 2024 on Thursday, September 5th, from 6 to 9 PM Berlin time.
